here are many reasons why a woman or couple

may be childless. It could be biological,

a personal decision, or something else.

Thankfully the societal pressure to have children

has lessoned in these modern times, but being

childless is still considered abnormal in the

minds of many. For parents the joy of children

is something they want to share. Just like the

joy of marriage is something those in love

want to share. But for those unlucky in love or

child bearing, it is the last thing they need.
The pressure to have a child is far worse

for women. The expectation is that all

women want to be mothers. You seldom

hear the phrase, “The biological clock

is ticking.” being used to refer to men.

If anything the opposite is considered

true of men. That they don’t want to

be fathers. Another popularly held

expectation that is often not correct.
For those of us caught up in the ‘joy’

of parenthood, here are a few things to

keep in mind not to say to childless family and friends

(the reasons should be obvious):

1. “Now that I have children, my life has

true meaning!”

2. “You’re being selfish.”

3. “I didn’t invite you because there were kids

at the party.

4. “But you would be such a great mom!”

5. “You’ll understand when you have

children.”

6. “Don’t wait too long.”

7. “You had better hurry up and give your

husband a child before he finds someone

who will.”

8. “You don’t know what real love is.”

9. “Aren’t you worried there’ll be no one

to look after you when you’re old?”

10. “Is your husband/family ok with

you not having kids?”
